Alumni Points in Delhi Nursery Admission: Proof, Membership and Duration Rules

By JEC Expert Team on 17 October 2026

You passed Class X or XII from a top Delhi school, so your child should get alumni points in nursery admission. Not always. Alumni points range from 5 to 40 depending on the school, and many schools ask for more than a mark sheet: an active alumni association membership, a minimum number of years in the school, or a certificate from a specific campus. Parents who miss one of these lose the points at document verification. This guide explains the proof rules at well-known Delhi schools so you can check your eligibility before you apply.

Alumni rules change from session to session. Please confirm the current criteria and required documents in each school's official admission notice before applying.

Why a Mark Sheet Alone Is Often Not Enough

Schools use alumni points to reward a genuine, verifiable link with the school. To keep this fair and easy to check, they ask for proof beyond a pass certificate. In practice, the extra requirement falls into three groups:

  • Membership: you must belong to the school's alumni association.
  • Duration: you must have studied at the school for a minimum number of years.
  • Campus: the certificate must come from a particular campus, and sister schools may earn fewer points or none.

1. Alumni Association Membership Requirements

  • St. Xavier's Senior Secondary School (Civil Lines), 5 points: A Class XII mark sheet by itself is not enough. You must also attach a valid Delhi Old Xaverians Association (DOXA) membership card.
  • Bal Bharati Public School (Ganga Ram / Pusa Road / Dwarka), 20 to 25 points: Alumni registration needs an Active Alumni Registration ID from alumnibbpsgr.org, obtained before you apply.
  • The Mother's International School (Aurobindo Marg), up to 20 points: Submit your Class X and/or XII pass certificates with your life membership number in The Mother's Blossoms association.
  • The Shri Ram School (Vasant Vihar), up to 40 points (shared cap): Parents must be registered, paid members of the TSRS Alumni Society and must have studied at TSRS for a minimum of 5 consecutive years.
  • St. Columba's School (Gole Market), 20 points: The father's Class XII mark sheet must come with proof of membership in the Old Columbans Association (OCA).

Tip: Alumni associations can take time to process membership. Register well before the admission window opens.

2. Minimum Duration of Stay Rules

  • Modern School (Vasant Vihar): A "Modernite" is a parent who stayed on the school rolls continuously for not less than 4 years, having passed both Class X and XII, or for not less than 8 years. Grandparent alumni status earns 0 points. The proof is a signed alumni certificate from the school office.
  • Springdales School (Dhaula Kuan and Pusa Road), up to 26 points: Points depend on how long you studied there:
    • 26 points for 11 or more years in school
    • 16 points for 5 to 10 years, which requires an Old Springdalians Association card issued at least 3 years earlier
    • 11 points for less than 5 years
  • Sanskriti School (Chanakyapuri), 25 points: You need at least 2 years of study, verified through the official Transfer Certificate (TC).
  • Sardar Patel Vidyalaya (Lodhi Road): You need Class X/XII Board mark sheets and proof of at least 4 years of study.

The Springdales rule on card issue date matters: a membership bought just before applying may not count. For more on the Springdales scoring, see our Springdales nursery admission point system guide.

3. Core Campus vs Branch Restrictions

  • DPS Vasant Kunj: You get 25 points if either parent passed Class X or XII from DPS Vasant Kunj itself. If the parent passed from another Core DPS Society school, you get only 5 points per parent, up to 10.
  • DPS East of Kailash and DPS Vasant Vihar: Alumni weightage of 24 points in total (12 per parent) applies only to Class X or XII certificate holders from DPS R.K. Puram. See our DPS Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash admission guide for the full scoring.

The lesson: an alumnus of a "DPS" or a "Bal Bharati" does not automatically qualify at every school with that name. The certificate must match the campus or society the rules name.

Alumni Proof Checklist

  • Identify the exact campus that issued your certificate and compare it with the school's rule.
  • Check the minimum years of study and whether the school counts continuous years or total years.
  • Join the alumni association early if the school requires membership, and keep the membership card or number.
  • Check when the card must have been issued. Springdales, for example, expects the OSA card to be at least 3 years old for the 5 to 10 year tier.
  • Get an alumni certificate from the school office where required, such as at Modern School, and allow time for signatures.
  • Keep the Transfer Certificate if the school verifies stay through the TC, as Sanskriti School does.
  • Know whose certificate counts. St. Columba's asks for the father's Class XII mark sheet, and DPS rules award points per parent.
  • Do not rely on grandparent status. Modern School gives grandparent alumni 0 points.

Common Alumni Proof Mistakes

  • Submitting only the mark sheet where a membership card is also required, as at St. Xavier's.
  • Joining the association too late to meet an issue-date rule.
  • Assuming sister schools count. At DPS Vasant Kunj, a non-VK Core DPS school earns only 5 points per parent.
  • Falling short of the minimum stay, for example less than 5 consecutive years at TSRS or less than 4 years at Modern School.
  • Missing the registration ID at Bal Bharati, which must be obtained before applying.
  • Claiming points for a different relative than the one the school accepts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all Delhi schools give alumni points in nursery admission?

No. Many do, but the points vary from about 5 to 40, and some schools have no alumni criterion. Check each school's current criteria.

Is a Class X or XII mark sheet enough to claim alumni points?

Often not. Many schools also ask for alumni association membership, proof of minimum years of study or a certificate from a specific campus.

Which schools need an alumni association membership?

St. Xavier's (DOXA), Bal Bharati Public School (active alumni ID), The Mother's International School (The Mother's Blossoms), The Shri Ram School (TSRS Alumni Society), St. Columba's School (OCA) and Springdales School (OSA card for the 5 to 10 year tier).

What is the minimum stay required for alumni points?

It differs. TSRS needs at least 5 consecutive years, Modern School 4 years (with Class X and XII) or 8 years, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya at least 4 years, and Sanskriti School at least 2 years.

Do grandparents count as alumni?

Not at Modern School, where grandparent alumni status earns 0 points. Check each school for its own rule.

Can an alumnus of one DPS claim points at another DPS?

Only to a limited extent. DPS Vasant Kunj gives 25 points for its own alumni but only 5 points per parent (maximum 10) for other Core DPS Society schools. DPS East of Kailash and Vasant Vihar give alumni weightage only for DPS R.K. Puram certificates.

How are Springdales alumni points awarded?

26 points for 11 or more years, 16 points for 5 to 10 years with an OSA card issued at least 3 years earlier, and 11 points for less than 5 years.

When should I start collecting alumni documents?

As early as possible. Association membership, alumni certificates and Transfer Certificates can take days or weeks to arrive.

Our Verdict

Alumni points can lift a score significantly, but they are won with documents, not just a degree of nostalgia. Before you apply, check three things at every school on your list: the membership requirement, the minimum years of study and the campus that counts. Start collecting proof early so that a missing card or certificate does not cost you points at verification.

Admission rules, points and dates change every year. Please confirm them on each school's official notice before applying.
