Documents Needed for Nursery Admission in Delhi — 2027-28 Checklist

By JEC Expert Team on 16 October 2026

Most Delhi nursery admission problems don't happen when you fill the form — they happen weeks later, at document verification, when a spelling, a date or an address doesn't match. Getting your papers right in October and November is the easiest way to protect a seat your child has earned.

This is the documents checklist for nursery admission in Delhi for 2027-28 that JEC's counsellors give families, with the mistakes we see every season. Schools publish their own lists with their admission criteria in late November, and schools may ask for documents beyond those listed — so always read each school's list too. The full version, with the proof for every claim, is on our documents required for nursery admission 2027-28 page.

The quick checklist

  • Photographs — mother, father, child and a family photo
  • Address proof — any two of the documents listed below
  • Date of birth certificate of the child
  • Medical certificate of the child
  • Vaccination record of the child
  • Proof for every point or category you claim (sibling, alumni, first child, single parent and so on)

1. Address proof — any two are required

Your address decides your distance points, so this is the document that matters most. Submit any two of these:

  • Aadhaar card / UID card (mother, father and child)
  • Passport (father, mother or both)
  • Voter I-card (EPIC) (father, mother or both)
  • Electricity bill, MTNL telephone bill, utility bill or water bill — in either parent's name
  • Ration card (mother or father, with the child's name)

Three rules that cause trouble: the address on the Aadhaar must be the same for both parents and the child; the address must match on every proof you submit; and if an Aadhaar is not available, upload the acknowledgement receipt.

2. Birth certificate — the proof of age

The birth certificate is what schools use to check your child's age. For 2027-28, age is counted on 31 March 2027 (Nursery 3+, LKG 4+, UKG 5+, Class 1st 6+) — use our nursery admission age checker to see where your child fits. The child's name must be mentioned on the birth certificate, and the name and date of birth on the form must match it exactly. If the certificate has an error, get it corrected now — it can take weeks.

3. Photographs

Keep recent photographs of the mother, the father and the child, plus a family photo. Avoid casual or party photographs for the form — a clear, plain photo is what schools expect.

4. Medical certificate and vaccination record

Schools ask for the child's medical certificate and vaccination record. The medical certificate should be on plain paper, signed and stamped by an MBBS doctor, confirming the child's fitness. Some schools have their own format for medical certificates, so check each school's instructions before you visit the doctor.

5. Proof for the points and categories you claim

Every claim needs a document behind it. Claim only what you can prove.

If you claimYou need
First childFirst child affidavit
SiblingIdentity card or fee receipt of the real sibling studying in the same school
Alumni (father / mother / both)School leaving certificate, or the Senior Secondary / Secondary board certificate
Special needsOriginal certificate of disability from a recognised government hospital
Single parentDeath certificate issued by the authorities, or the divorce decree
Adopted childAdoption deed issued by the government
Staff childA letter from the head of the institution, details of employment, or a copy of the appointment letter
SC / ST / OBC groupA certificate from the SDM office

Two things to remember: ongoing divorce cases are not considered under the "single parent" category, and cousins never count as siblings.

6. Affidavits: stamp paper and a Notary

Affidavits — for example the first child affidavit — must be on ₹10 non-judicial stamp paper, attested by a Notary. Some schools have their own format for affidavits, so check the school's instructions first.

7. Verification day: originals and copies

After the first list, selected families are called for document verification. Bring the original of every document and self-attested photocopies. Any mismatch between what you typed in the online form and your certificates can mean the seat is forfeited — this is the most painful way families lose an admission.

JEC tip: keep a folder per child with 3–4 self-attested copies of each document, so you are never short when a school, a verification desk or a second school asks for a set. And scan everything once, clearly, before December — when forms open, uploads then take minutes, not days. (File size and format rules differ by school; check each form's instructions.)

Mistakes that cost seats

  • Name spelt differently on the form, the birth certificate and the address proof.
  • An old address on the form because one proof still shows the previous home — the address must match on all proofs.
  • Claiming a point without paper — for example alumni points with no certificate from the school.
  • Cousins counted as siblings. Schools exclude them.
  • The wrong stamp paper — an affidavit on plain paper, or without the Notary's attestation.
  • Blurry or oversized uploads. If an upload fails, save a screenshot, check the file size and format the school wants, and contact the school before the deadline — never assume a half-finished form was submitted.

Quick answers

How many address proofs do I need?

Two. Any two of the Aadhaar / UID card, passport, voter I-card, an electricity, telephone, utility or water bill, or a ration card — with the same address on both.

Is Aadhaar compulsory?

No — it is one of several accepted proofs. If it is not available, upload the acknowledgement receipt, and use other accepted proofs for the second one.

What documents do I need for EWS/DG admission?

EWS/DG seats use one common form on the Delhi government's EWS admission portal, which lists the documents for each category.

Your document checklist for October

  • Check the birth certificate: the child's name and date of birth are correct.
  • Choose two address proofs that show your current address — and check the spelling and the address on both.
  • Get photographs: mother, father, child and a family photo.
  • Book the child's medical certificate (plain paper, signed and stamped by an MBBS doctor) and find the vaccination record.
  • List the points you'll claim and collect the proof for each; plan affidavits on ₹10 stamp paper with a Notary.
  • Make a folder per child with the originals and 3–4 self-attested copies of each document.
  • Scan everything clearly so uploads in December are quick.
