What to Carry on Verification Day
When your child is shortlisted, bring every original document and a self-attested photocopy of each, on the date the school assigns to you. Originals are checked against the copies. Keep the copies in the same order as the originals so verification goes quickly.
1. Proof of Identity (Group I)
- Both parents must submit identity proof. The father and the mother must each submit at least one document from Group I.
- Single parent exception: if you are a single parent, identity proof for only one parent is required.
- Accepted documents: Aadhaar card, Voter ID card (EPIC) or Passport.
Make sure the names on the documents match the application form exactly.
2. Proof of Residence (Group II)
Distance carries up to 40 points at SPV, so address proof is closely checked. The school requires an active record of the last 3 months: either an active utility bill for the last 3 months or a current bank statement covering at least the last 3 months.
Accepted address proofs:
- Aadhaar card or UID card of the parents
- Voter ID card (EPIC) of any parent
- Electricity bill, MTNL telephone bill, water bill or Passport
- Ration card or smart card bearing the child's name
Check that the address on your proof matches the address on the application form. For more on address proof rules across Delhi schools, including rent agreements and utility bill windows, keep an eye on our address proof guide in this series.
3. Category-Specific Documents
First-Born Criterion (20 Points)
A first-born claim must be supported by an affidavit signed by both parents and attested by a Magistrate. SPV's guidelines do not accept a standard Notary Public attestation for this claim.
- The affidavit must be executed jointly, so both the mother and the father sign it.
- Get it attested by a Magistrate, not just a notary.
- Keep the original for verification, with a self-attested photocopy.
Many families get affidavits notarised out of habit. At this school, a notary stamp alone can leave you without the 20 points. See our first-born points and affidavit guide for how other schools differ.
Alumni Criterion (15 Points)
To claim alumni points you need:
- A CBSE Class X or XII marksheet, and
- Official proof that the parent studied at SPV for at least 4 continuous years.
The marksheet alone is not enough. Ask the school office for the proof of study well before the application window, since certificates can take time. Our alumni points proof guide compares this rule with other Delhi schools.
Sibling Criterion (25 Points)
You need proof of enrolment for a real (biological) brother or sister who is currently studying at SPV. A fee receipt, school ID or a letter from the school may serve as proof, but use whatever form the school's notice names.
Gujarati Minority Category (25-Seat Quota)
SPV has a quota of 25 seats for the Gujarati linguistic minority. Applicants in this category must submit the certificates or documents that support their Gujarati linguistic minority status. Check the school's notice for the exact list.
Inclusive Education Category (4-Seat Quota)
The inclusive education category has 4 seats. Supporting documents include:
- Official disability or medical reports under the RPWD Act, 2016, or
- Single-parent or adoption documentation.
Document Checklist for Verification Day
- Originals and self-attested photocopies of every document, in the same order.
- Identity proof for the father and the mother (one document each), or for one parent if you are a single parent.
- Residence proof: utility bill for the last 3 months, or a bank statement covering at least 3 months, or an accepted ID with the same address.
- First-born affidavit signed by both parents and attested by a Magistrate, if you are claiming 20 points.
- Alumni documents: CBSE marksheet and proof of 4 or more continuous years at SPV, if you are claiming 15 points.
- Sibling proof of a brother or sister currently enrolled, if you are claiming 25 points.
- Category documents for the Gujarati minority or inclusive education quota, if applicable.
- The assigned verification date. Note it down and arrive on time.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Getting the first-born affidavit notarised only. SPV requires Magistrate attestation.
- Only one parent signing. The affidavit must be signed by both parents.
- Submitting an alumni marksheet without proof of 4 continuous years at SPV.
- Bills covering less than 3 months, or a bank statement that does not cover 3 months.
- Bringing only photocopies, or only originals. You need both.
- Address mismatch between the application form and the proof.
- Only one parent's identity proof where both parents must provide one.
- Leaving everything to the last week. A Magistrate appointment and alumni proof both take time.
